Sunday 6th April saw four Adult gymnasts setting out for Sutton to represent the club at the Sutton Gymnasts Academy Adults Competition. The competition was a very entertaining day with plenty of good humour between the competitors who had come from across the south coast and London, the skills that were shown by the Former (Pro) gymnasts in both the Ladies and Mens competitions were inspiring for the Novices
Shelley Miller was competing for the first time as an Adult, in the over 18 Novice , where she finished 6th on vault and 7th on floor – this was also the first time that she had performed to music.
Mel Hallinan represented the club in the Under 40 Pro category, where she picked up three golds (Beam, Vault and A-Bars) against some very good competition – especially as she twisted her ankle during her final landing on floor, before going on to compete vault and A-bars.
Reuben Shaw had a lot of competition on the under 40 Mens Novice category (including some very talented ladies ), that said he performed very well and stuck his landings allowing him to come away with a healthy medal haul of 3 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronzes, and most of his dignity.
The final competitor was Richard Bartlam in the Over 40’s Novice Category, who came home with 3 gold and 2 silvers. In this category there were fewer competitors, who saved their energy for specific pieces!
Overall this was a fantastic day, with a few bruises collected and many aches the following day – however, all was worth it and we look forward to the next competition in Basingstoke in June.
